What Is NESA?

The North East School of the Arts (NESA) is a premier, nationally-ranked magnet school program. NESA provides a tuition-free performance-style education for artistic students across San Antonio. Our integrated curriculum is designed to ignite creative potential through daily study in specialized majors, ensuring students gain both technical mastery and real-world experience.

Our dynamic environment is supported by educators who are professional artists themselves. Students learn through studio experience, live collaborations, and master classes to build professional portfolios that prepare them for both prestigious post-secondary arts education and immediate professional careers.

Who Thrives at NESA

NESA is designed for students who are passionate about the arts and want more than a traditional classroom experience. Our approach nurtures gifted talent, helping them excel regardless of their prior education.

Students who thrive here are often:

  • Interested in performance, design, composition, and storytelling.
  • Motivated by creative innovation and collaborative projects.
  • Looking for expert mentors for a comptetitive edge before graduation — not after.

No prior experience required

NESA welcomes students from within and outside NEISD boundaries and is built to support students as they discover their strengths and abilities.

Students begin at different skill levels and grow through structured curriculum, guided instruction, and ongoing support. What matters most is curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to learn.

How NESA Works

Students build skills and talent by completing a major:

Outcomes That Matter—For Parents and Students

Students at NESA graduate with more than a diploma — they graduate with options.

Throughout the program, students work toward talent development that strengthens both college applications and career readiness. These credentials reflect skills that colleges and employers recognize and value.

Graduates commonly pursue:

  • College majors in film production, dance, script writing, and music composition.
  • Professional roles on Broadway, television, international orchestras, and cruise lines.
  • Continued artistry alongside higher education.

By the time students graduate, they have developed their talents and built experience — rather than trying to gain it after high school.

Student Life

Students have access to:

  • Academic support, tutoring, and performance preparation.
  • Student organizations, competitions, and clubs.
  • Opportunities to collaborate, lead, and grow alongside peers with shared interests.

NESA combines advanced academics with a strong sense of community and support. The program is intentionally structured to support students both academically and personally. Specialized learning environments, engaged instructors, and hands-on experiences help students build confidence as they develop their skills.
